As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, TAPM holds an annual business meeting in accord with its Bylaws. This was done on April 4, 2003 after the End-of-Life Educational Symposium, help as part of the TexMed 2003 Texas Medical Association Annual Session. Outgoing President Dennis Pacl, greeted the record number of attendees at the meeting. Executive Director Carla Crossno provided an overview of the past year's efforts, which included the creation of a permanent address and the opening of a formal bank account after fundraising efforts have successfully raised over $3000. The establishment and ongoing development of the website and the email service were other accomplishments. A membership drive has pushed the total number of contacts and members within TAPM to over 50 General Members, as well as a number of Associate Members comprised of out-of-state physicians and in-state non-physician members. As his last act as
President, Dr. Pacl thanked the departing officers and oversaw the election of
new officers. These include: Incoming President Ronald Crossno then challenged the attendees to consider the upcoming year. TAPM has traditionally co-sponsored the EOL track at TexMed. However, this has been an educational effort geared more towards the general physician population and not towards palliative care physicians in particular. Considerable discussion ensued regarding options for TAPM to sponsor a true specialty meeting designed for its membership, on hopefully an annual basis. Whether this would be in conjunction with future annual meetings was still to be determined. Several of the membership were charged with investigating possibilities regarding existing meetings with which TAPM could partner in order to accomplish this goal. The complete minutes of the meeting are available for everyone's perusal. |
