Status of TAPM's Nonprofit Classification
TAPM is fully certified
as a nonprofit entity under Chapter 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Service
code. This means that TAPM is a public, charitable-donation supported entity,
whose mission is to benefit the public. Having achieved this status in May
1999, TAPM has worked diligently to meet its mission.
TAPM does receive some
income from its CME accreditation services, but the majority of its income is
derived from donations, including dues memberships which are fully
tax-deductible.
Status of Filing Form 990
Nonprofit entities are required by law to file an
annual Form 990 with the IRS, and to make copies of these forms available to any
and all enquirers. However, entities with less than $25,000 of income per
annum are exempted from this requirement. Since inception, TAPM's annual
income from all sources has always been less than $25,000.
Progress Towards Our Mission
One of the primary means that TAPM tries to advance
its mission of providing "support
for medical education and the scientific advancement of palliative medicine to
the benefit of the public interest in the state of Texas" is through accredited
continuing education programs for physicians.
The following table summarizes our efforts for physician CME
as of September 2006. This does not include non-physician participants at
TAPM sponsored events.
